Bordeaux, Montpellier, Tours, Toulouse; Dreyfus effigies burnt; demonstrations in Marseille, Nancy and all of Lorraine; religious services held to continue the "sacred battle" against the Jews; in Algeria Synagogues ransacked; Jews stoned.

Von Bülow declares in Reichstag that Germany never had contact with Dreyfus.

Zola tried for libel and declared guilty. Fined 30 000 francs and sentenced to one year in prison; later flees to England.

February 26
Picquart dismissed from the Army.

Lucie Dreyfus requests permission to go to Devil's Island but is refused.


March 4
Picquart - Henry duel.
Henry slightly wounded.

July 7
Minister of War Cavaignac unknowingly reads one of
Henry's forgeries to the Chamber of Deputies, as a proof of Dreyfus' guilt.

Picquart challenges Cavaignac's proof.


July 13
Picquart arrested.

August 30
Henry confesses to forging documents and is imprisoned.

Henry found dead in his prison cell.

Esterhazy flees to England.
