1894
July
Major Esterhazy pays first visit to Schwartzkoppen at the German Embassy and offers his services as a spy.

September 1
'Bordereau' arrives at German Embassy.

arrives at Army Counter-Intelligence.


October 14
General Mercier orders handwriting test of Dreyfus but signs warrant for his arrest before the result is known.

October 15
Dreyfus is arrested and incarcerated in the Cherche-Midi Military Prison, Paris.

December 19-21
Court martial of Dreyfus conducted in camera. Henry denounces Dreyfus. Secret dossier passed by the Military to the judges without the knowledge of the defence.

December 22
Dreyfus found guilty and condemned to public degradation, exile and imprisonment for life.

1895 January 5
Dreyfus publicly degraded in Paris in the courtyard of the Ecole Militaire in front of his fellow officers and a hysterical mob. First public signs of violent antisemitism. Theodor Herzl reporting for the Neue Freie Presse in Vienna is alarmed.

April 13
Dreyfus arrives on Devil's Island.
